John Wesley wrote, “All who desire the grace of God are to wait for it in the means which he hath ordained.” But what are the “means” by which God’s grace is given to us? During this series, we will explore the concept of the means of grace, and take a special look at the sacraments of baptism and communion.
We are saved only by God’s grace, not by any actions that we do. We ought nevertheless to access “the usual channels of his grace” that Christ ordained. What are these channels? Why do we consider some more special than others?
Baptism is the rite of initiation into the community of faith, the outward physical sign of an inward spiritual reality. Why do we practice it for adults? For children? We’ll talk about all that and more. And we’ll baptize several Artisan folks to boot!
Holy Communion (a.k.a. “the Eucharist” or “the Lord’s Supper”) is the sacrament of sustenance. It is not only an act of remembrance and unity but the “food for our souls.” Come to learn and partake!
